Today is a good day to set up your accounts and get familiar with the applications. Both applications will ask for a lot of simple demographic information such as your name, address, high school, etc. Fill all that out ASAP. Then you can concentrate for the next few weeks/months on the more detailed sections like the essays/insight questions and activities/awards. You will need your most recent transcript to complete the Academic History section. If you don’t have that, ask your counselor for a copy when school starts.
My #1 tip to reduce stress and anxiety around applications: do as much as you can during the summer. Work on the applications for a few hours each week and you will have a great head start before you head back to school. Imagine how fall semester senior year, with all of your AP/honors classes, fall sports, homecoming and other commitments, will feel if you have your applications almost complete well before the deadlines. Good!
I have a lot of confidence in you. You will tackle these applications, write amazing essays and show those admissions officers what a remarkable person you are.
I’m looking forward to working with you this fall!

I contacted Liz Murphy to help my son through the college application process. Though a very bright young man, he had challenges with follow-through, and I knew he would not get through this process in one piece without some external support. Liz was wonderful with my son, as she met him where he was. She got to know him, and his preferences. She did a masterful job guiding him toward universities that would best suit his interests and had a good chance of admissions success. She stayed on him to ensure he completed his applications correctly and met his deadlines. As a result, Matthew was accepted into 5 colleges! He's heading to Chico State University as a member of the Class of 2019. Liz's calm, cool, communications approach took the stress right out of this process for our family, and for that, we are forever thankful!!
